Rudolf
Schindler
Rudolf Schindler was an Austrian-American architect and a pioneer of California Modernism. He studied under Otto Wagner in Vienna, then worked for Frank Lloyd Wright before establishing his practice in Los Angeles. He developed 'Space Architecture' - focusing on dynamic, flowing spaces rather than style or material. His Kings Road House (1922) is considered by many to be the first modern house built anywhere. He designed approximately 500 projects, of which 150 were built, primarily in the Los Angeles area. His work received renewed critical attention starting in the mid-1960s after being overlooked during his lifetime.
